Storytelling for a Digital Age
Hollis utilizes a multidisciplinary design practice to explore the intersection of art, science, and technology. Her early work encompasses time-based and multimedia installations, as well as immersive and interactive experiences that incorporate sound design, moving images, performance, and text to tell emotional narratives about the human condition.
Her practice involves self-initiated research experiments and spans both physical and virtual realms. She examines how emerging technologies—such as artificial intelligence, surveillance architecture, and data privacy on social media—are reshaping our world. With her focus on bio-art, speculative design, and design fiction, she challenges assumptions about the roles of humans and technology in everyday life.
Hollis focuses on how computational infrastructure can both conceal and reveal significant socio-political debates surrounding health crises, data ownership, and digital footprints. She critically explores the development of contemporary computing technology and its broader social impact, placing a strong emphasis on human perception to create a distinctly humane aesthetic.
In her continued practice, Hollis aims to explore biomaterials as a medium for innovation and design. She envisions biology as a dynamic component that can enhance creative practices, merging the organic with the technological. She seeks to explore new possibilities for design that not only challenge traditional boundaries but also inspire innovative solutions for the future.
